It's a pretty good START.
I was dissappointed with the vetoed union bill. The Governor had a point about method, ram it down their throats. However, the legislature should have responded with another try. In what other situation do you have to vote TWICE to decide a question. We need the unions politically, economically and socially.
Anyone who thinks worker's rights can be protected or advanced without the unions is fooling themselves. What we have in regards to working conditions, pay and benefits were not a gift from business. We will continue the backslide in compensation for workers while the execs and share holders take the money and run, laughing all the way to the bank.
Ask any independent building contractor. While Lowes, Home Depot and the National Builders reap record profits we're still working for what we did 3 years ago. The materials are inferior and the service is atrociuos, both of which make it more expensive for us to build a quality home. We're getting creamed by business insurance costs while we can't afford to have health insurance for ourselves and our families.

Governor Ritter has been doing a good job. However he must re-establish his good name with the AFL-CIO & one way would be to appoint someone as a labor liaison.
The Colorado AFL-CIO will soon be under new leadership as of May 9th 2007. That would be the right time for this action.
We need to win in 2008 and we can't leave labor on the sidelines or we well loose to the Republicans .
