Single payer health care for all is the only reform that should be considered. It will save the tax payer billions of dollars and they would have much better care than we have now. I do not know how any office holder can be against saving us billions of dollars and giving us all quality health care during this time when so many people have no jobs and no health care coverage.
Sincerely,
Amy Truby

I was on the Democratic Platform Committee where 30 to 2 voted in favor of single-payer universal health care and a pilot project in Colorado. One of the 2 no votes changed their mind and is now a co-sponsor of HB 1273, the Colorado Guaranteed Health Care Act.

HB 09-1273 seems to be within one vote of passing the Colorado house.

In 2006 and in 2008, California passed similar legislation only to be vetoed by the California Governor.

To hear the arguments made for HB 09-1273, visit the following link and if you are using Internet explorer, you an scroll down under the video directly to the bill:
http://coloradohouse.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=254

I believe that it is time for real health care reform, not more band aids on a broken system.

Sincerely,
Dave Bean

Thank you Congresswoman DeGette for getting the problem right. The best solution of a single-payer, private provider national health care system is evident by the overwhelming empirical body of knowledge and research that supports such an approach. When we have more political leadership from people like yourself, politically feasibility is no longer an issue. Please make this a part of your legacy. There are millions of stories like the single mom that you referred to if you will continue to listen.

Sincerely,
John Valvano

I toatally agree with Sally Broste, given that polls show a majority of Americans support universal, single payer health care, as well as doctors. Not only that, John Conyers' bill H.R. 676, with its 64 Congressional co-sponsors, has been endorsed by numerous Medical Associations, Faith organizations, Political Groups along with numerous local and county governments, labor unions, and several state governments. And yet not one representative for universal health care was invited to the Washington summit held on March 5, and very little coverage was given on a National level to the demostrations outside the five regional forums.
You are definitely out of touch with the people as well as the FACTS. What should matter most is what is best for the people and makes the most sense economically, and you are ignoring both.

I could not have said it better than Sally Broste. I am the Congressional District Point Person for the Northern Colorado Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America, and I believe I speak for over 200 members in supporting Sally's comments.

You are wrong about single payer or medicare for all not having public support. Just yesterday CO Rep. John Kefalas bill for Guaranteed Health Care for Colorado passed the House of Representatives. Talk to John Kefalas. He has worked with many many groups in Colorado and understands the issues, perhaps you will learn from him. He and his Democratic colleagues spoke to the thinly veiled threats of increased taxes, the Soviet Union - quoting from 1921 - yes, 1921 - socialized medicine at the hearings in the CO House of Representatives on 4/6.

Look at the Conyers bill HR 676 in the US House of Representatives. It is also very thorough.

I attended the Health Care Summit that then Senator Ken Salazar held in Denver Dec. 5, 2008. After several panels of speakers representing physicians, nurses, social workers, religious groups working with underserved citizens, and the head of the Colorado Health Commission 208 (who has a vested interest in health insurance, as did many on the 208 commission), Senator Salazar looked directly at the 208 chairman and asked if we need to revisit single payer health care - the man said yes, perhaps we need to do so.

I believe YOU and many of your colleagues, including President Obama (whom I campaigned for) are threatened or have been bought by the health care industry. You seem to be afraid. NOW is the time to rethink what you say you value for Americans and then speak up for what is right, instead of the mumbo jumbo you speak about working with the insurance industry and the drug companies; these are the companies that have greedily taken every dollar they can from American citizens, did everything they could to deny health benefits, and now are crying for fairness. These companies have NOT been fair with the citizens they are to serve.

The US Senate has had a bill on single payer recently introduced by the Senator from Vermont. Others are not afraid to speak up for what is right. Do not invent some other plan that is sure to fail because of high costs as those working with health insurance companies did in Massachusetts and Oregon and other states.

We need Democrates to use this time of stress to do what is right. You are in a position to do so, so please do it.
